Argosy University is looking to recruit qualified Psychology adjunct faculty members to teach online classes in Forensic Psychology. Applicants must hold a PhD in Forensic, Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a related field. Candidates must have at least one year experience in forensic work (competency, mentally ill and dangerous, custody, treatment) as a psychologist or substance abuse counselor. Candidates must also be a licensed psychologist and have at least one year's teaching experience at the post secondary level.

These positions are only open to applicants who live in the United States. Broadband Internet access recommended. Required online orientation and training will be provided. Forensic Psychology Research: Suicide by Cop

The phenomenon of suicide by cop (SBC) is attracting an increasing amount of empirical interest within forensic psychology. As a case in point, police and forensic psychologist Kris Mohandie, Ph.D. has just had a paper published entitled "Suicide by Cop Among Officer-Involved Shooting Cases" in the latest edition of the Journal of Forensic Sciences.

In defining SBC Dr Mohandie refers to the process by which "a suicidal individual engages in actual or apparently life threatening behavior in an effort to compel law enforcement to use deadly force against them". With this definition in mind, Dr Mohandie and his colleagues analyzed over 700 North American officer-involved shootings which involved reviewing police reports, witness statements, crime scene photographs, videotapes and news reports. Among the authors findings were that 36 percent of the shootings in the sample could be classified as SBC.

The new forensic center at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is providing invaluable student learning opportunities by connecting its psychology services to the legal sector and community agencies that interface with the court system.

According to the forensic center web page "As the practice arm of the Forensic Psychology Department, the center brings students together with local organizations on projects that bolster hands-on learning experiences while addressing unmet needs in the community. Students benefit from the opportunity to put classroom instruction into practice in real-world settings that range from the Cook County Department of Juvenile Probation to women's shelters, residential treatment centers, and programs for ex-offenders."
